Rather laid back and basic. Owner stopped by and said to just put cash or check in an envelope and drop it in the office mail slot. We never saw anyone in the office. Although some attempt seemed to have been made to level some slots, we felt we got the last almost level space. They now have some 50 amp spaces available but the permanent residents seemed to have taken all of them. Some spaces had low wires hanging over them; at 13' we were too high. They have cable wires but no cable service.

We really did not care for this campground very much. As others have said, it seems to have a lot of potential if Thousand Trails would give it more attention. The staff was very nice, both at gate, and the store. The full hookups all worked as expected. But this place is really out there! It is very far to the nearest town. We left early because the place just seemed kind of icky. For one thing, our ATT cell phones did not work here. 2 of our kids' bikes got flats from all the puncture vine weeds that are all over. Half of the trees looked dead, & the other half (not evergreens) left leaves that had not been raked up in months. Most sites were closer together than most other Thousand Trails parks we've been to. They no longer offer horse riding. And just overall this park seemed to lack any character. We were here at the end of December 2008/January 2009, so maybe it looks better in the spring or summer. We did enjoy the Pinnacles which was about 40 min south of the Thousand Trails park.

This park is a diamond in the rough. It is under new ownership as of May of last year. The new owners are great. They have cleaned out most of the old rv's and trash. They are also in the process of putting in all new electric, we were the first to use the new 50 amp service at our site. Nice grass sites, with concrete pads, some new, some will be new in the near future. They are in the process of sealing the roads to keep the dust down. They have plans for club house and pool. The river cruise was a lot of fun. They also have canoes and kayaks to rent. I am looking forward to going back.

I noticed the web-site does not advertise the cost of staying at the park. I requested a reservation by email and was never contacted. I made contact by phone but the dates were wrong. When we arrived a site was available, but it was smaller than what we had been told. We asked for assistance helping us back in due to the narrow road, narrow sites and trees and were told the park did not provide that service. We had to ask two neighbors to move their vehicles so we could get into our site. The sites were so narrow when a trailer parked next to us we had to step over their sewer hose. There are very friendly people staying at the park. Our neighbors provided us with more assistance and information than the staff, but hey, that is the great thing about camping! When you walk the dogs you will need a pair of gloves with you to remove all hte stickers they get from the Dog walk. We may research otehr parks in the area for our next trip. Other people may like the park but for this price I expect more.

We enjoyed the campground. The hiking trails are nice, with plenty of places for bike riding, and many ranger lead activities. The campground layout can be confusing. What looks like should be a one way street is really two way. We saw one unit pull in the wrong way and had to run their hook-ups under the camper. They came in after dark and it is hard to tell since all the sites are pull through.

Canyon Lake is beautiful and this campground has 22 sites with water and electric that are all less than 50 yards from the lake. There is also a pretty full service marina and a good restaurant on site. There is a row of 30 amp sites that are intended as back-ins and another row of 50 amp sites, which are pull-throughs. The campground has several problems, all of which are correctable if they make the effort. They should put in at least a dump station if no sewer hook-ups for the sites. They should also do a better job of defining the day use area and separating it from the campground as we experienced a large volume of day use people hanging out right in front of our rig. There is also a problem with the numbering of the sites in the 50 amp section, which led to much disagreement among the campers in this area during our stay. Another criticism of the 50 amp area is that they set it up for hookups on the right ignoring the motorhomes who need it on the left. When a group of us were discussing this with the campground staff (while arguing about the site numbering), the staff replied that the motorhomes can back or come in around the other direction thus facing the road as opposed to the lake - this did not go over well with the people with motorhomes. Lastly, the staff were friendly, but not inclined to enforce the rules. They allowed a couple who brought 8 children with them to pitch a tent on the shared grassy area (two violations - supposed to be a max of 6 people per campsite and no tents are allowed on the shared grounds). When our neighbor asked the staff about it, they replied that they decided to ignore it. The large tent blocked our view of the lake for the two nights this family was there. The staff also ignored the frequent violations of the rule asking people to pick up after their dogs. We have two dogs and were the only people in the campground who picked up after our dogs during our stay. All in all, they have a great location and a mediocre campground, which could also be very good with a little more effort from the management.
